‘Forbidden Ring’ 3D Jewelry Design

Client: Personal Project

Project Description: ‘Forbidden Ring’ Custom Typography + 3D Concept

Software Used: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, Redshift, Lightroom

‘Forbidden Ring’ was a personal project that utilized skills in typography, 3d design and modeling, art direction, photography, visual effects/animation, and image retouching.

The initial design was inspired by a blend of illegible heavy metal and tribal type designs with clean, mixed style, basic serif type that allowed the word ‘ring’ to sit inside of and add balance to the ‘forbidden’ type concept.

The ring was created inside the 3D software Cinema 4D and rendered with the engine Redshift.

Starting with the base of the ring a chrome tube simple primitive, then extruding, smoothing, and wrapping the type of the word ‘forbidden’ around the tube to look like somewhat of a crown.

Once the 3D lighting, texturing, and camera placements were set I began art directing the piece pulling together an experimental variety of lens widths, lighting setups, and DOF placements to get the images on the right.

The final project came together with animated renders that I edited and color graded into a sort of advertising commercial as if the ring were for sale out in the world.
